Woman Buys Bank She Used to Work At And Turns It Into Her Dream Home

We have seen some overly unique homes here on BuzzNick. Sometimes people pack up everything and move into a tiny home, other times they take a unique place and create a peaceful retreat for a home. But my favorite ones are the ones where someone take an old building or a historic place and create an unusual yet inviting place to live. Cathy Calhoun of Pennsylvania had a desire to do exactly that. Her first job was a bank teller at The National Bank of Spring City in Spring City, Pennsylvania. When she found out the that the bank, built in 1872, was closing and being sold, she did the unthinkable and decided to purchase it. Her master plan was to transform the old building into a rare and unique bank home.

Cathy was ecstatic to find out that her first place of employment was up for sale.

She describes that the bank was left as is, “almost as if they closed it for the weekend”.

She wanted to keep the unique history of the bank for her renovations. She used her talents and her love of design to blend of the history of the bank with more modern designs.

The bank home has about 5200 square feet of living space. She purchased it for about $52,000.

The bank is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cathy also thinks she might not live there alone too.  A 1921 robbery left one man dead after he suffocated in the vault, many have claimed to have seen his ghost wandering the stairs.

She still has an entire basement she has yet to explore too.

According to CNN Money; the clipping room of the bank, which is  where individuals would clip coupons from their bonds, became a powder room.  The upstairs vault became a bar, and the downstairs vault, which had no ventilation, became a steam room. Cathy has taken something from her youth and made a very unique home incorporating many design and DIY projects to make it her own. Would you do something like this?
