I really can’t even begin to describe to all of you how excited I am that summer is finally here. The long nights of winter are behind, and bright sunny days await us. One of my favorite things to do during this time of year is to sit around a fire with my friends and a cooler of beer. There really isn’t a better way to spend a Friday night than that. If you’ve ever bought a fire pit from the store, you know they can be pretty unreasonably expensive. I mean, it’s just a metal shell that holds wood right? I’ve caught myself thinking, “I could definitely make one of these.” Well in reality I was right, and it’s incredibly simple. This guy actually decided to repurpose the washer drum from his old washing machine, and turned it into a homemade fire pit!
There isn’t much you can do with a broken washing machine.

Unless you have a creative mind that is!

These are all the supplies you’ll need to make this project work.

He used the cutting wheel to separate the lip of the drum from the container.

He also had to cut out the standpipe.

He then sanded down the rough edges throughout the whole drum.

The fire pit needs legs to stand on, so he drilled 6 holes on the bottom of the drum.

Screws, bolts and nuts were used to create the legs. The builder added that he would have created two more legs for added stability, so keep that in mind.

All that was needed after assembly was a nice paint job. Not bad-looking for a repurposed washer drum huh?

It seems to work perfect!

This is a super simple DIY project that can provide entertainment for many summers to come. Why go to the store and fork out your hard-earned money for something that burning wood sits in when you can just create one yourself from an old washer drum? Finding one of these old drums wouldn’t be that difficult either. Any appliance scrap yard would most likely have one that would work perfect for your needs. This is definitely one DIY that you’re going to want to take a crack at.
