There are few things that encapsulate my childhood more than an original Nintendo NES gaming system. My baby sister used to have one for her kids, so whenever I would go over there, me and my friends would play the Mario games non-stop! It was pretty much our job at that age. If I’m ever fortunate enough to have children, I would want them to know the joy that comes from playing old video games. Apparently these parents didn’t want that to be lost on their children either. So they decided to give their kids the ultimate gaming room, and teach them a little bit of the history of gaming platforms all in one job! Check out what they did to give their kids the ultimate gaming room with an old school feel!
First, they drew up some sketches of what the basic concept would look like. As you can see, they have a giant NES controller for the backdrop of the TV, and they have the giant gaming system below.

He painted the wall gray in order to size up how big the controller would be on the wall.

They then used 1 x 4 pieces of wood to make the frame of the controller?

Obviously you need directional buttons on any controller, so they cut that out of a 1 x 8 piece of wood and secured it using liquid nails.

Cut out the directional arrows on the controller and painted the inside of it black.

It was then as simple as cutting out the other components that made up an aesthetic version of the greatest controller in gaming history. You have the start and select buttons in the middle, and the A and B buttons on the right side. They did seem to add two extra buttons though, which any gaming nerd is going to notice right away.

They decided to take a break and make the whole room match the color of the game console and controller. So they painted the walls gray.

From there it was time to mount the TV. These kids are going to freak out when they see this set up!

He stuffed a piece of 1.5″ diameter cord sheathing into the frame to make a faux controller cable.

They bought a dresser from Overstock and assembled it. This is the final product when they were done piecing it together. This was just the beginning however, this thing will become the actual gaming console.

Adding a fake bottom to the front of the dresser gave it the NES shape, then they painted it to match the original colors of the system.

Printing off the images of the text was the easiest way to ensure the accuracy of the font on the buttons.

For a power light, a hole was cut into the faux bottom of the dresser. An LED nightlight was mounted behind the hole, and an epoxied automotive reflector that was cut to square was placed over the top of the LED light.

Power and Reset buttons were added, along with labels.

Almost done! Just have to get the TV set up!

What I would have given to have one of these in my house!

If these kids aren’t the envy of everyone on the block, I don’t know what this world is coming to.

These kids are going to have countless hours of entertainment in this room. They probably won’t be ever to fully appreciate how awesome this setup is because they weren’t around for the NES. For all of us who grew up on this gaming console however, this brings back memories of simpler times. When all you had to do was go to school and have fun. Now these parents just need to buy an actual NES system and put it in the room so these kids can appreciate it!
