The bond that people have with their pets are truly unique. It’s something that is hard to explain unless you have a pet yourself. This story and pictures of trucker Mathew B. and his 3-year-old cat, Ashes show just that.
The two have been on the road together for a while as they travel around the country in Mathew’s 18-wheeler semi-truck. Unfortunately, Ashes had accidentally slipped out of the truck back in July as they were passing through Ohio. The cat got scared and ran off into the bushes. Matt was absolutely devastated and started searching everywhere for his beloved cat companion. He even went as far as rearranging his routes so that he could continue searching the spot where Ashes vanished. He eventually had to give up and get back on the road but he never stopped looking for her.
But that all changed when a passerby named Kimberly found Ashes in 13-degree weather months later in the same spot she went missing. She was on her way to New York.

Kimberly states the cat was in need of immediate veterinary care.

Once she arrived in New York with the cat, she reached out to animal welfare center Lollypop Farms.

The organization said, “Our Admissions Team immediately scanned for a microchip, as they do with all incoming pets. Not only did he have one, but he had an owner who had registered him under a Texas address that was over 1,465 miles away! This was one cross-country kitty.”

Obviously, Mathew wasted no time and rearranged his driving schedule and drove to New York.

Once Ashes saw Mathew, she immediately recognized him and went right up to him with affectionate head-butts and purring.

Mathew said, “It’s my Christmas miracle. It’s that microchip – without it, I wouldn’t have ever gotten him back. The women that found him saved his life, but the microchip brought him home.”
