The connection between man and dog is a connection that has stood out to humans for a very long time. Dogs are known as “mans best friend” for a reason. Their loyalty, respect, selflessness and companionship have inspired stories and movies alike. In almost every culture, there are stories about mans special bond with his canine companion. The amount of joy a dog can bring you indescribable. I have owned dogs my entire life, and I can honestly say that there is no other animal that I have ever encountered that is so in tune with a human emotion and feeling. That’s why this touching Patagonia video hit home so hard with me. This short video is spoken from the perspective of Denali, Ben Moon’s dog, who like him, was battling cancer. Ben was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Denali stood faithfully by his side, refusing to leave the hospital room even when the doctors were trying to get him to leave. Throughout the surgeries, treatments, and procedures, there was Denali, resting gently beside Ben. The dog’s healing power played a huge role in Ben’s recovery.
The emotional video takes you through the story of Ben and his best friend Denali and their many adventures together. Ben and Denali were both diagnosed with cancer, and they both fought their illnesses together. Unfortunately though, Denali lost his fight at the ripe old age of 14. Ben decided to create this beautiful memorial for his friend and life long traveling companion. It was entered in the 5point Film Festival in Colorado, where it took home People’s Choice and Best of Festival. In this touching Patagonia video, he shares photos of their many adventures together and leaves us with the all too important message. Friendship, no matter two-legged or four, is forever.
Here is Ben Moon with his dog Denali smiling together on one of their many adventures.
Ben and Denali were inseparable. Ben adopted Denali from a shelter in 1999, and they were traveling companions for the rest of Denali’s life.
Denali was with Ben every step of the way through his cancer, and Ben stayed with Denali through his battle.
Ben Moon is a photographer by profession, so he documented much of their time together in pictures and videos. He compiled his footage to make this touching video tribute to his furever friend.

This is an absolutely incredibly heartfelt video. I was tearing up watching it the first time, and actually cried the second time. Growing up with dogs, I know how strong of an attachment you can have with them. I respect and cherish their undying devotion and loyalty. I never wanted them to have to leave this earth. As with every living thing though, there comes a time when we have to say goodbye. Saying goodbye can be one of the hardest things to do, whether it is with a person or an animal. I just hope that when I eventually lose someone very close to me, that I can be as brave and appreciative of the time I had with them as Ben was with Denali.
