I want to start off by saying that no cute, fluffy, little squirrels were harmed in the making of these adorable photos. Russian photographer Vadim Trunov is a pretty well-known nature photographer, and he is really good at his job. These squirrels look like they are having a whole lot of fun playing in a winter wonderland. A lot of people are getting tired of the winter at this point, especially those in the Eastern US that have gotten more than their fair share of cold and snow this year. Even if you are sick of the snow, you will love these pictures. Get ready for a cuteness overload. And possibly a few references to the movie Frozen. Because I know how not sick of that movie everyone is.
According to the photographer Vadim, the squirrels were not really out to play in the snow.
The truth is a little bit sadder. Vadim said, “It’s winter, these squirrels are hungry, and they want food! In fact, the ones with the pine cone and the nut are fighting over the winter food, which I left in a clearing so I could photograph them!”
Even if they are just foraging for food to stay alive, these pictures are still amazing.
I think this one has found a new profession.

Knowing that they are actually really hungry and looking for food changes my perspective on these pictures a little bit. I thought to myself, “What if they started fighting and clawing at each other?” This little photo session could have turned out a whole lot differently. It could have turned into a full on squirrel fight. But probably not. After all, they are animals and this is nature. The strongest survive.
