Prepare to dazzle your friends and impress everyone at your next party with a little magic. Here are 8 water tricks that are sure to impress your friends and make you look cooler than you already do. You can do all of these with a few simple items you already have lying around the house. Take a look and get ready to break out your old and dusty Chris Angel gear to preform these tricks. On second thought keep the Chris Angel gear in the closet.
1. The Water Refraction Trick
Light refracts water and bends light, so fill up a glass and pull up a picture of some arrows, slide it across the picture and watch the arrows flip and travel backwards.
2. The Pepper Trick
Fill a bowl with water and sprinkle some pepper on the top. When your friends place their finger in the bowl nothing will happen. Here’s the trick, place a bit of soap on your finger and watch the pepper magically spread away from your finger.
3. The Whiskey Over Water Trick
Fill one shot glass with water and another shot glass with whiskey. Place a plastic card over the water glass so it won’t spill and place it on top of the whiskey glass. Slide the card enough to create a tiny gap between the glasses. Wait about 10 minutes and the whiskey will be on top and the water on bottom. Water is heavier than whiskey so they naturally trade places when a gap is provided.
4. The Fireproof Balloon
If you fill a balloon with water and place it over a lit candle it won’t pop. The water dissipates the heat enough to prevent the balloon from popping. If you leave it too long it will pop, so be careful and practice this one.
5. The Bending Laser Trick
Take a 1 liter bottle and poke a small hole in it. Fill the bottle enough so that water drains out freely. Point your laser so that it goes through the bottle and lines up with the hole you made. If you place your hand below the stream, you will notice that the laser actually follows the stream of water. The water acts like a fiber optic cable and refracts the laser with it.
6. Glowing Tonic Water
Take a bottle of tonic water and put a black light up to it and you will see it glows vibrantly. Tonic water contains phosphors which react to black light causing it to glow.
7. Water Suspension
Take a plastic or mesh screen and rubber band it around the neck. Pour water into the bottle through the mesh, cover the mesh and flip it upside down and remove your hand. Don’t worry it won’t spill. Take some toothpicks and push them through the mesh. You may get a drip or two but the water won’t spill and the toothpicks will float up to the top. The cohesive properties in the water bond to the mesh preventing it from spilling.
8. The Instant Freeze Pour
This is an awesome trick to see in person and very easy to do. Take a bottle of purified water and place it in the freezer. You have to time it just right but when the temperature hits roughly 32 degrees, any disturbance or contact with anything cold will cause the water to freeze instantly. Be careful not to disturb the water when taking it out of the freezer or it will freeze in the bottle. Place a few bottles in the freezer and check them every 20 minutes or so until you have the perfect temperature. This took about 1 hour in my freezer.
