Coming up with gift ideas for significant others can be a challenge. Balancing your desire to get them the best gift possible with the money you have available can be a real challenge. That’s why I dread Christmas time every year. Being crafty is a huge plus when trying to come up with gifts. It allows you to make something truly unique, and probably cheaper than most things you would buy. So when this guy realized he needed a gift for his girlfriend, he decided to put his DIY skills to use for his special person. Now most people think of sharks as terrifying creatures. Apparently this guys significant other is a big fan of them though, so he got an idea and started to go to work. Look at what he created and you never know, you may find the inspiration you need to create that unique gift for your loved one.
He was able to find an old nightstand for a great price. This thing is from the 40’s, and you can definitely see it’s had better days.
The first step was to get all that old finish off. He used an electric sander as well as sand paper to get the job done.
It looks better without the finish in my opinion.
This thing seriously looks like a newly made night stand. All just after a little sanding and elbow grease.
Getting the perfect stain was critical, he chose to keep a darker color like the original.
He went online and purchased some shark teeth…and for some reason a single pig’s tooth.
Now the artistic part begins! He first laid out the design he wanted to create using the sharks teeth. As you can see he had a template already made. Cute dog too.
He wanted everything on this table to be perfect, so he meticulously measured the distance between each tooth before he super glued them to the table top.
This is after everything was glued down. Looks pretty nice right?
To protect the teeth on the table and provide a smooth surface he applied epoxy to over the whole top.
The epoxy created so many bubbles that he was forced to use a blowtorch to get rid of them all.
After the design was finished, he applied large shark tooth drawer handles. The handles tie the whole project together extremely well in my opinion.
This is definitely a one of a kind gift that his girlfriend won’t be able to find in any store!
If this guy’s girlfriend wasn’t impressed by this gift, I think it may be time for this guy to find a new one. It may not have been the most difficult DIY project ever attempted, but that doesn’t take away form the great finished product he ended up with. If his girlfriend likes sharks enough for him to go and make something like this, she would be out of her mind not to thoroughly love what this guy did for her. Well nameless girlfriend, the balls in your court next giving season.
