Sometimes we get so comfortable in our everyday lives that we tend to forget what is happening on around the world. Other times, watching the news or hearing the stories is too devastating, so it just is easier to avoid it. I know for me, I hate hearing stories of terrorists, devastation, and pain. Although not always right, it makes it easier to dodge it. Like the saying goes, “Out of sight, out of mind”. As a child, it is a lot easier said than done. Children have a unique way of understanding the heartache that surrounds us. In the below video, a young girl who is probably only 10 years old, exposes the reality that a year can make. This eye-opening video is part of the Save The Children organization and is aimed to shed light on the havoc that is happening around the world.
Save The Children definitely got their point across with this compelling video. It helps me realize the reality of the war that is going on, even though it is not near me. The video shows a British girl filming a one second video of her life. In her footage we can see messages of the escalating conflict pop up in the news, but she stays oblivious. Then bombs start falling. The video ends with a thought-provoking sentence, “Just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.”
It makes it very real and very painful to know that this is going on. If you would like to help, you can visit Save The Children’s website here. For just $90, you can provide two families of 4 people heaters to help keep them stay warm or for $146 you can provide a family of 6 with their nutritional needs for an entire month.
