Have you ever seen a Kakapo Parrot? Chances are you have not because this beautiful bird is incredibly rare. The Kakapo is native to New Zealand but rarely seen. In fact, their numbers are so low they are officially labeled as a “critically endangered” species. Researchers can count and list by name the number of Kakapos left on our earth. For this reason, when researchers found a rare Kakapo egg in danger, an entire team of professional rescuers leaped into action with high hopes.
This is what the endangered Kakapo Parrot looks like.
This is Lisa, one of about 125 Kakapos left in this world. When she accidentally crushed her egg, a team rushed to save the rare chick.
The team used a gentle adhesive with high hopes the internal membrane wasn’t damaged.
With tensions high, all the researchers could do was wait and hope.
On February 28th, a tiny beak emerged from the damaged shell. The keepers were amazed.
This is the very first Kakapo chick born in the world this year. Her name is Lisa One.

The Kakapo chick is just one lucky step forward on a long road of recovery for this beautiful species.
This beautiful Kakapo is doing great and growing stronger each and every day.
