Being a surfer, Ryan Lovelace loves to be able to pick and go to the next best surfing spot when the time is right. He wanted to be able to do this without worrying about who was going to house sit, dog sit, pack up his belongings for the weekend, etc. So he decided to buy an old vintage bus, and with the help of his girlfriend and a few buddies, he turned it into an amazing home on wheels! I promise you’ll want to check this out.
This is what the old vintage bus looked like when Ryan Lovelace first purchased it. It is a very cool bus, but seems like it’ll take a lot of work to make it a comfortable living space. Good thing he’s got a girlfriend and some friends to help him out. And don’t forget his cute dog.
The first major task was cutting out a whole in the back of the bus that would be the beginning of a loft. This loft would serve as his bedroom.
Now that the hole was cut out, it was time to weld the bed frame supports into place. You definitely don’t want to be fast asleep, then all of a sudden fall through the bottom. Support was crucial.
Because this project was all about reusing and recycling, he used custom recycled windows so he could have a bedroom with a view.
With some help from his friends, this was all possible. If he didn’t have help, there is no way this project would have been successful.
His dog is being very helpful during this entire project. He’s hanging out in the shade provided by the bus. I guess that’s much better than getting in the way while they are doing the heavy lifting.
The walls were also made from recycled wood. But that’s not even the coolest part. The wood is actually from George Lucas’ old house!
The girlfriend decided to use her artistic abilities as well and painted Ryan a custom floor covering, adding some color and wonderful art to this small space.
After seeing this fabric, you can tell exactly where the inspiration came from. I think the dog approves.
This bus even had a working kitchen. Because you can’t really pack up and find the next best surfing spot, if you are worrying how you are going to feed yourself.
After a project like this, you have to name the bus! They opted for the name Ophelia and gave it a nice warm welcome by painting the name on the outside.
This place is looking pretty cool! I love all the plants, really bringing the warmth of nature inside the bus.
The dog seems pretty happy with the final project, already claiming his favorite spot.
The final project is looking really great! It has everything they need to pick up, move on and find the next big wave.
If you see this DIY bus remodel sitting at a beach, you know that Ryan is not too far away and the waves must be amazing.
I am always so impressed when people take something that would normally be tossed to the wayside or put into a junkyard, and turn it into something amazing. This project turned out great and now he doesn’t have to worry about where he’s going to stay when he decides to pick up and head to the next beach.
