Whenever I hear the term ‘Steampunk’ I think of the movie Wild Wild West with Will Smith and Kevin Kline. Dr. Loveless and his girls are the epitome of Steampunk, which is a subculture that combines science fiction with fantasy using steam technology that is incorporated into a futuristic 19th century fashion design. But Steampunk is not just a fashion, it is also a literary genre where the setting is a futuristic Victorian age and involves a supernatural storyline and technology. Steampunk has also spilled over to a cosplay type atmosphere where people can pretend to be a part of an alternate world in which steam was the predominant power instead of electricity enabling technology and design. I can see the appeal of Steampunk, it’s taking the best of the 19th century and modernizing it into a present day possibility, an alternative reality if technology developed differently than how it developed in reality.
There is a bar in Romania who has taken the Steampunk theme and ran with it! This pub has an amazing atmosphere and would be a fun place to go even if you aren’t dressed in a combination of fabric and metals popular with the Steampunk crowd! After seeing inside, you will want to visit Romania and this pub, Joben Bistro in Cluj-Napoca!
I love the combination of Victorian plus industrial style of this bar! It would be an incredible experience eating here even if you weren’t dressed up in Steampunk style!
The metal used in the decorations are classic Steampunk design.
Check out the light fixture on the ceiling!
I love the cogs and wheels on the wall and the blimp type light on the ceiling!
Very unusual way to display the bottles! I wonder if those buttons and gauges do anything!
I am far from being Steampunk myself, but I wouldn’t mind borrowing some of their design aesthetics for my own home.
This little bicycle type invention may not be very practical as a bike, but it makes for some pretty cool wall art!
I particularly like the back-lighting at this bar!
It doesn’t look like it would be too difficult to adopt the Steampunk style, just go shopping at Home Depot and add pipes and nozzles to random pieces around the house.
I wonder if this deer has any clue what is happening.
Here is a video that can help explain what Steampunk is better than I am able to:
I don’t think I will become a part of the Steampunk crowd, but it would be fun to have a few of the above pieces in an office to add some uniqueness to the regular decor. And this would definitely be a pub worth visiting next time I am near Romania!
