Water Activated Street Art Comes To Life When It Rains

Sometimes, when having a bad day, it is nice to have a little pick me up.  It might be just a cup of coffee or maybe just a beautiful flower blooming in the spring time. Maybe it is a simple text from a friend telling you to have a good day or possibly the sun shining outside after a cold winter.  It seems like when it rains outside you want to do nothing but cuddle in bed and sleep. Rain is known to cause some type of sadness in people, versus the sun shining bright outside. But one guy, Peregrine Church, a Seattle-based street artist, has decided to do something about that. He uses super hydrophobic coatings to create pieces of art and happiness on rainy days. ut don’t worry, the work he is doing is 100% legal and there is nothing toxic in it. Depending on how often the sidewalk is used, the art will last 4 months to a year.

Church works on creating unique rain art and sometimes his work is funny, motivational, or just simply a happy piece of art.

In an interview, Church states, “I’m just always trying to make the world a more interesting place. In this case, by giving people a reason to be excited for rainy days”

He has started a company called Rainworks. According to Church, he is getting paid commission, but refuses to do any works that advertise a specific company or brand because that would just conflict with the purpose of the fun rain art.

On Rainworks website, they have a simple philosophy “It’s going to rain anyway. Why not do something fun with it?”

I think it is pretty safe to say that their movement is empowering and can lift up anybodys spirit on a rainy day.

The designs are limitless. Clever sayings, funny rain associations, and even games are quite the norm from Rainworks.

If I came across this one I couldn’t help myself from skipping and playing a little hopscotch in the rain! This would immediately brighten a gloomy day.

Everybody gets a little melancholy or even suffer from depression when it is rainy and wet outside. Something in us just craves that vitamin D and those warm sun rays. Well, Rainworks is working to solve that problem and make those dreary days something to look forward to.

I know you’re singing it to yourself right now. I think I might enjoy the rain a little more and actually look forward to it if these pieces of art were covering my city streets.

You can see the application here. They cut out stencils to prevent any over spray. This allows perfect placement and a great finish. They can also put the spray on very thick so it will last a little while.

This one is my favorite. I used to love this game! I almost feel bad for people living in the dry areas of the world.

Yay! I love the humor in these. They need to be funny in order to cheer up all of us affected by the dreary skies above.

I love the idea of helping people to stop and smile after a long day at the office. Or to stop and play a game of hopscotch while it is pouring outside.
