A professor in Germany named Hubert Zitt teaches electrotechnology at the University of Applied Sciences in Kaiserslautern, Zweibrücken, Germany. He is known by everyone as the professor who uses Star Wars and Star Trek references in all of his lectures. He is a Sci-fi nerd and very proud of his love for sci-fi pop culture. He is a tenured professor who is respected among his community. He loves Star Wars more than most people and wanted to share his passions for science and Starr Wars with the campus by transforming the Zweibrücken Observatory into a giant R2-D2. He enlisted the help of a team made of his talented peers to paint the giant observatory. What a perfect structure to turn into R2-D2. The observatory can be seen for miles around and it has attracted Star Wars fans from miles away. His art installation even caught the attention of Star Wars’ own Mark Hamill who tweeted about it, “R2-D2 Observatory Transformed Germans Into Giant Nerds.”

Professor Zitt is known for his passion for Star Wars teaches electrotechnology. He came up with an idea that would fuse his two loves while providing the community around something awesome to enjoy with him.

Professor Zitt has gained world-wide acclaim for his lectures on Star Trek. He has traveled to many universities and conventions to speak including FedCon, Europe’s largest sci-fi convention.

Professor Zitt has gained so much attention because of his love of Star Trek that he wrote the preface for the book ‘Star Trek In Germany’. To say Professor Zitt is a sci-fi nerd might be a bit of an understatement.

He enlisted the help of his friends some students and a professional painter to make his idea come to life.

The observatory just happened to be the perfect shape to become R2-D2.

People immediately noticed the giant R2-D2 and of course had to show up for some epic photo shoots.

The best thing about Star Wars is that is spans a couple of generations so everyone can enjoy the giant R2-D2.

After seeing this, I think all observatories should be painted as R2-D2’s and Minions. Don’t you agree?

I wonder if C3P0 will be joining his little buddy anytime soon?

The vision of one very proud nerd has now become an icon at the university.

This isn’t the first time an observatory has been painted like R2-D2 however. In 2010 some students painted the observatory at Carleton College in Minnesota although the quality isn’t quite the same.

R2-D2 now proudly guards the university and gives company to those who wish to watch the sunset.

I can imagine how proud Professor Zitt is pulling up to work every morning seeing his glorious creation staring back at him.
