Little newborn animals are some of the cutest creatures out there. Especially when it comes to ones with fur like kittens, puppies, and of course, newborn rabbits. Their eyes are still closed, they sleep most of the day & night, and they can usually fit in the palm of your hand. Really, it doesn’t get much better than that, so soft and cuddly! Well this may be the most adorable article I’ve done in a long time. Recently, reddit user molele, posted 16 pictures showing the first 30 days of a newborn rabbit’s life, and they are just as cute as you would think they are. Check out these adorable pictures of this newborn rabbit, along with 16 facts about rabbits that you may not have known.
Day 1. Did you know this? A baby rabbit is also called a kit. The female rabbit is called a doe and the male rabbit is called a buck, similar to deer. A large group of rabbits is called a herd.
Day 2. Rabbits usually live up to 8 years, but if they are spayed/neutered they can actually live up to 10-12 years.
Day 5. Bunnies have the inability to vomit, so when keeping them as a pet it’s very important to watch what they eat.
Day 7. Rabbits are shown in the Chinese Zodiac. They represent graciousness, kindness, sensitivity, compassion, tenderness, and elegance.
Day 8. Even though rabbits aren’t the loudest animals, they do communicate vocally. If you hear a low humming while a rabbit is running around you, that’s their way of voicing their affection for you.
Day 10. Rabbits love the company of other rabbits. And if they are kept as pets, they often don’t do well because they are missing the social interaction they need in order to be healthy.
Day 12. On that note, if two rabbits are sitting next to each other, they will groom each other simultaneously.
Day 14. Rabbits are herbivores, so they eat only grasses and other plants.
Day 15. Rabbits have nearly 360° panoramic vision, which allows them to see everything that is coming up behind them, making it easier for them to get away from predators. The only blind spot they have is in front of their nose.
Day 16. They can be very territorial and often live in organized groups. Their underground tunnels have a lot of different entrances and exits in and out to ensure their safety from predators.
Day 18. Some people think that rabbits are easy because all you need is a hutch and some food, but they do require more attention than this. If you have a pet rabbit who is showing aggressive behavior, then they are more than likely in distress.
Day 20. Rabbits love a change in scenery. Their underground tunnels are always changing, and this is one thing that may cause distress when kept as a pet. You have to keep their environment stimulating for them.
Day 22. If you have a happy rabbit, you may have seen them do something called a ‘pinky’. This is when they jump in the air, twist and then spin around.
Day 25. Rabbits are very good at being trained using rewards. There are even rabbits who have been trained to go to the bathroom in a litter box.
Day 28. Rabbits have very strong hind legs. They are able to jump over 3 feet high and over 9 feet in distance.
Day 30. Jackrabbits have been clocked going up to speeds of 45 mph!
As cute as rabbits are, I don’t know if I’ll be getting one as a pet anytime soon. I had no idea that they do better when they are in pairs and I don’t really want to add to more mouths to feed into my daily routine. But these pictures of this newborn rabbit are so adorable. I’m glad this reddit user decided to share these cute pictures with the world. It’s crazy how small they start out as, but then they grow and grow into large adorable animals.
