Do you love to swim or even scuba dive? Well then, you’ll love this article! In Brussels, Belgium, there is a swimming pool called Nemo 33. Yes, it’s a pool with its very own name because it is a destination. It’s the worlds deepest indoor swimming pool. Its depths reach an astonishing 113 feet, which is 34.5 metres. This pool is so deep it’s used for swimming along with scuba diving. Nemo 33 is available to tourists, amateur divers as well as professional divers. The only requirements are that you are at least 12 years old and are in good/healthy shape. If you plan on diving, you must be certified or supervised by a trainer. And just to make sure it’s extra safe, all divers must have a certified diver as a dive buddy. Should we take a look inside this magnificent facility? Let’s dive on in!
Nemo 33 contains 660,500 gallons of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water. The temperature of the water is kept at a cozy 86F (30C).
The pool does have a variety of flat platforms, along with a circular pit which descends to the bottom.
Not only is the water 113 feet deep, there are quite a few underwater caves that can be found throughout a diver’s dive.
The pool itself offers many options for both inexperienced and experienced divers.
The underwater caves, varying depths, along with the perfect temperature make this an amazing place to hone in on your diving skills.
To provide the perfect atmosphere for divers, there are three pressurized rooms at the bottom of the pool. They are constantly filled with renewed air to give divers the break they may need.
The pool was originally designed by a Belgium diving expert named John Beernaerts.
He wanted the design to be appropriate for both recreation and scuba diving practice.
Even if you don’t feel like diving, but maybe some of your traveling buddies do, there are fourteen underwater windows that allow outside visitors to view in.
Diving isn’t the only thing that this place has to offer though.
Nemo 33 also contains a restaurant, a bookshop, a swimwear store, a souvenir store, and rooms that allow for other activities. It has been the worlds deepest indoor pool for the last 10 years and it didn’t look like any building was ever going to compete.
But recently The Hotel Terme Millepini in Montegrotto Terme, Italy opened up their indoor swimming pool, that’s measured at 137 feet deep.
A group of divers descended down into the circular pit of Nemo 33 and decided to document their entire dive.
The view above the diver is really amazing looking. The lights are shining in but as you dive deeper and deeper, it gets darker and darker.
It’s getting really dark down there, but I’m glad there is a ladder in case someone gets a little tired.
Inside one of the caverns, you can see how they tried to make it mimic real life. This is one of the areas that also contains the pressurized renewed air.
When you need a break, simply remove your breathing apparatus and enjoy the scenery.
It’s a little eery knowing that you are 113 feet below the surface of the building.
But you can wave to your friends as they enjoy a nice lunch while you are diving.

If you are a diving enthusiast, I can definitely see why you would want to check this place out. Even if you’re not big into diving, going here would be something memorable to see, even if you were just getting a bit to eat. It’s amazing what can be designed and mimicked from nature, making it so you don’t have to go into the depths of the ocean to push yourself to the limits. The great thing about Nemo 33 is that there are no wild animals swimming in the water, waiting for its next meal. It’s just you, your diving partner, and a whole lot of water!
