Meet Saraswati Suharto, the makeup artist that can turn herself into any fictional character she dreams of. Saraswati uses a sophisticated makeup pallet, colored contacts, and her hijab to recreate the likeness of popular fiction characters. She has been amassing nearly half a million followers over the last six years by posting her incredible makeup transformations on Instagram.
Through the use of her hijab, Mrs. Suharto proves that fashion and modeling can be done modestly, “It just goes to show that hijab-clad Muslim women can also be artists. I just hope that they do not think wearing a hijab is a limitation. It really doesn’t change anything,” She told Rojak Daily in an interview. Suharto does all the makeup by herself, rarely requesting help from others “but sometimes my mum helps me to sew parts of the costumes. Usually it takes between one and a half to two and a half hours to get the looks done,” Saraswati explains. Ranging from Disney princesses to Harry Potter characters, this Malaysian artist has some serious skill.
