This 'Selfie Drone' Wants To Be Your Personal Photographer That Follows You Around

I have a good friend in the film industry that recently invited me to a set where they were going to play with a drone to capture some aerial footage. Drones are amazing, but it’s hard to find a high quality affordable drone. The footage they can collect saves the studio thousands of dollars per second of usable footage over the helicopter and CG alternatives. While viewing this amazing piece of machinery in action, I found myself a little intimidated with the learning curve that comes into play when learning to pilot these machines. My mind went, as it so often does, towards simplification and automation of an already developed method. Apparently I was not alone. The people of LILY must have had the same idea somewhere along the lines. What they were able to develop is an amazing, automated and affordable drone with a solution to the piloting learning curve. They were able to literally eliminate the need for a pilot altogether.

This amazing affordable Lily camera drone is very compact. Measuring 10.29″ x 10.29″ x 3.22″, this quadcopter design weighs in at a mere 2.8 lbs. It is waterproof, which means no interchangeable batteries. Not to worry though, the 20 minutes of flight time is around 2.5 times greater than the battery life of the drone that we were playing with just weeks ago. The tracking device easily fits into a pocket or can be attached to the waterproof wrist case. Lily automatically synchronizes the audio from the microphone in the tracking device, making sure that the video isn’t just another boring silent movie. The camera is capable of taking 12MP stills, 1080P video at 60 frames per second or 720P at 120 frames per second for those awesome slow motion moments that you need to catch. Changing camera settings is made easy via apps available for both the IOS and Android platforms. All of this sounds fantastic, but the best part is the affordability of the $500 price tag (for a limited time). Common price points of droids have a huge range from the hundreds to several thousands depending on the models and camera qualities that you choose. The Lily camera is definitely priced to where it could become a common feature amongst outdoor enthusiasts. I can think of a ton of uses for this product and it has officially made its way onto my wish list!
