There seems to be a strange expectation in todays society that all women should want to have children. Many find the idea of a woman that does not want to have kids as outlandish and wrong, but it is a truly strange belief to have. You could argue that the desire to give birth is written into a woman’s DNA, that it is built into us ensure the survival of our species (the same goes for men too). But I have to say, as a species we are doing pretty alright for ourselves! Considering there are nearly eight billion of us living on Earth, it is probably a good thing if a few of us humans do not feel the need to reproduce.
Artist Kate McDonough is tired of the constant negative response received upon telling people that she does not want children. In an attempt to address this issue and ease the minds of those who are seemingly very concerned about her personal choice, she has illustrated this brilliant 25 panel comic explaining why it is okay to not want children. Check out the 25 comics below.

If you do not want to have kids, it is okay! “[My mother] taught me to think for myself and be honest about my thoughts, and I appreciate more than anything that she doesn’t pressure me to have children. I will continue to explain my choice as best as I can, and hopefully people will eventually stop asking this very personal question.” Kate comments on her Tumblr. People should stop being so concerned about the personal desires of others. If you want children, great! If you don’t want children, also great! It does not, and should not, make a difference to you or me.
