Polly was one of 3 horses rescued by the Horse Trust in the UK after being discovered by the RSPCA . Unfortunately it was already too late for the other two, but Polly had a fighting spirit despite the terrible condition she was in. It has been 6 months of slow rehabilitation, but she continues to improve:
This was Polly when they first found her. It’s amazing that she was even still alive after being so malnourished.

Once she was rescued by the Horse Trust, they started nursing her back to health. As you can see Polly was extremely malnourished, barely more than skin and bones.

In addition to being severely underweight, she also had a severe skin condition however she proved to be very affectionate despite her experience with her previous owner.

Incredibly, Polly has made a full recovery in just 6 short months, thanks to the wonderful rescuers at the Horse Trust!

Polly is now well enough to have been released into a field at the centre with other rescued horses.

“It seems such a long time since Polly came to us in February. Hers was a case of cruelty of the worst kind. Her condition was so terrible that we could never be totally sure if she would pull through until recently. Every day Polly enjoys from now is a bonus. It won’t be the end of treatment for her, but it is the beginning of her new life.” ~Jeanette Allen, Chief Executive of The Horse Trust.
Allen also said “She’s a real mare now, the transformation is unbelievable. She’s got a group of male horses who follow her everywhere – it’s a right little fan club. When we first got her we would never have imagined putting her in with other horses. She could barely have survived the slightest brush.”
