Deciding what to do with a spare room can be tricky. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the extra space and for those that are, narrowing down what the best line of action to take isn’t easy! Most people tend to keep their spare rooms as bedrooms for guests, but if you don’t have regular visitors and could really make use of having something like an office instead, things can get frustrating. But, there is a great solution!
It all started with a spare bedroom.

And a plan.

He started by building the initial frame.

Used simple brackets to adjust the height.

Added support beams as well.

Hoisted the frames and brackets and bolted them to the walls.

And started planning the support beams.

Beams installed and a simple bed frame on lockable castors in place.

A couple little screws into the floor to keep it in place.

Not bad.

Added a foot board and started on the paneling.

A view of the other side of the foot board.

Added some handles to the footboard, this is the part that will slide out

Added some 20mm chipboard to support the laminate flooring

Added the stairs.

Construction of stairs.

Laying the plastic foam layer down between the chipboard and flooring

Installed laminate flooring.

Flooring and skirting done.

Another shot of the skirting.

Added trim to the edges and skirting to the bottom. Filled in the screw holes with wood filler.

Coat of wood primer.

First coat of white enamel and it’s starting to take shape.

Second coat of enamel, looking good.

And the final coat to take it home.

Desk and bookshelf in place.

Bed slides out fairly easy on the castors but it’s pretty heavy.

Another angle of the completed bed sliding out.

And it all looks beautiful.
