Have you ever locked yourself out of your house, car, or office? Your heart instantly sinks as soon as you realize what you just did. Reddit user BlakeIsGreat recently locked himself out of his office at work. I’m not sure why there was not a master-key or a duplicate, but because of this error, he was locked out of his office for a good chunk of his work day. But then he came up with a brilliant idea. Not even the locksmith that was hired to open the door could figure out how to get in. Check out this amazing way to open a locked door using FaceTime!
After two hours, the locksmith still didn’t have a way to unlock the door. They were really getting their money’s worth on this hourly job.

They tried everything, but nothing would work. That’s when they got the most brilliant idea ever. He FaceTimed himself, then slid his phone under the door so they could see the door handle inside of his office.

Using his MacBook, he was able to FaceTime himself and see exactly what the door handle was doing on the other side.

Because of this, the locksmith was able to use a flexible reach tool to pull the door handle down to open it. And just like that, he has access to his office again.

I wonder if this will start to be a regular tool used by locksmiths. I know I would definitely try this before calling one now that I saw how easily it worked. If you think about it, the locksmith was there for two hours trying to unlock the door. The average service call rate for a locksmith is $68.00, plus their hourly rate can average $50.00. It is possible this job cost upwards of $200! That’s quite the savings when you can figure out how to unlock it yourself using FaceTime along with something long enough and strong enough to pull down on your door handle.
