Model trains often remind adults of their childhood. They remember asking for a model train when they were younger, and opening it either on Christmas or their birthday, only to be overjoyed with so many emotions. They played with the model train for hours on end. But as they got older, sometimes the model trains got pushed to the wayside being replaced with video games or other electronics. Sometimes the love of a model train railroad never resurfaces, but for others, they can’t wait to have kids of their own so they can pass the passion on down to their offspring. Recently reddit user mobbie, was visiting her boyfriend’s grandpa when he took them on a tour of his basement. This is what they found.
The grandparents have lived in this house for about 30 years.

Her boyfriend’s grandpa has been working on this basement transformation for about 15 years total.

It started off as a small project after the kids started to move out, but it has grown into so much more.

The amount of time and detail that goes into this model train railroad is beyond impressive!

He built each piece of this railroad slowly to ensure that it would withstand the test of time.

Here is an overview of his shop, showing all of the supplies that have gone into this masterpiece.

Not only are there tons of supplies that include glue, wood, and more, there are stacks and stacks of Model Railroader to help inspire him on what he should add next.

With her boyfriend standing in the aisle, you can truly see how massive this project is, and he’s still adding to it.

The grandparents are talking about selling their home to downsize. I wonder if the train would come with the house or if he would take it with him. He wouldn’t be able to downsize much by the looks of this model train railroad.

Issues and issues of Model Railroader are stacked neatly in 3-ring binders, and they are organized by year. I am wondering if this grandpa has a slight case of OCD.

If I didn’t know any better, I would guess that these trees are real and that this picture was taken from above lush landscape.

I sure hope this grandpa is retired, because he has definitely put a lot of time and effort into building something so magnificent. Could you imagine being a little kid, maybe a great-grandchild, and being allowed to play with this massive basement railroad? All other model trains would be put to shame after playing with this gigantic railroad room. And that’s really what he did, he turned a full basement into his own personal building ground. It’s really impressive and I hope when they do end up selling the house, that he is able to take at least part of his collection with him.
