If there’s one thing that most grandparents love over anything else they’ve seen or accomplished in their lives, it’s their grandkids. Grandkids are like the trophies of the grandparents and they only wish to spend as much time as possible with them. Well if you are a grandparent and absolutely love your grandkids, you might be a little jealous of Doug Hayes of Oregon. Doug has 10 grandkids to be proud of. That’s right 10! Having 10 grandkids does make it difficult to find time to spend as much time as possible with each of them so he came up with an ingenious idea. He wanted to see his grandkids on a daily basis and he decided that in order to achieve that, he had to purchase a small school bus to take and pick up the grandkids from school. His wife Amy took to Facebook to share some pictures of the “Grandfather Express.”
Doug’s wife Amy asked him what he wanted for his 59th birthday. She asked if there was a bucket list item he wanted to check off perhaps.
Doug replied, “‘I want a bus so I can go around every morning, pick up all the grandkids, and drive them to school before I go to work,’” she recalled him saying. “‘Just a small bus. We’d sing songs, talk, and it would be something unforgettable they did with their grandfather. If money were no object, I’d want a bus.’”
All of the grandkids live within 20 miles of school and grandpa is only 3 miles from the school. Giving them all a lift is well worth it and easy enough.
His wife Amy searched for over a month to find the perfect bus and shortly after the “Grandfather Express” was sitting in the driveway.
“It’s primarily about getting to spend a few minutes with them every single morning,” Hayes said.
According to CNN, Hayes can’t wait to get the bus on the road and the maiden voyage is on schedule for the first day back after Christmas break.
The grandkids are so happy with their Christmas gift. I can only imagine how happy their parents are as well for having morning rides for the kids every day! Grandpa is the happiest of them all.

This grandpa has a heart of gold and his grandkids are very lucky to have him. They get to personalize their school bus and use it for many years to come. Grandpa now gets to see his grandchildren every single day on their way to and from school. The value in that is priceless.
