In times of stressful situations, there are really only two types of people. The type that panic and abandon ship, concerned with only the safety of themselves, or the heroic type. The heroic type has something inside of them that almost goes into auto-pilot and simply gets stuff done! This type seemingly instantaneously assesses the situation and instinctively acts upon it. No matter what it takes, they work to their body’s limit and do whatever it takes to achieve their desired remedy. The little girl in this story is exactly that type. For whatever reason, this canoe begins to sink and all the occupants are forced to abandon the vessel.
As the sinking canoe becomes completely submerged, this little girl’s quick thinking may be the only thing that will save the canoe.
I think everyone’s initial response would be to stop the canoe from plummeting to the bottom of the bay.
The girl somehow comes up with the idea to rock the sinking canoe back and forth
She somehow finds the right rhythmic pattern to forcefully slosh the water about, causing it to escape the inside of the sinking canoe.
Once most of the water is out and the canoe is floating again, the children are free to climb back aboard.
Our young hero isn’t done yet. She continues her acts of kindness by helping the other children back into the canoe that she just saved.
With a little water left in the bottom of the canoe, the children use cups to scoop it out.

This little girl is quite amazing with her quick thinking and selfless reactions. I find it hard to believe that most adults would have been able to act in such a way as to actually prevent the sinking canoe from drifting to the bottom. This girl not only prevents the catastrophe, but also exhibits a stunning display of athleticism and an obvious familiarity with her actions in the water.
