There is a mountain located in China called Mt. Huashan. Plenty of people have died on this mountain. One look at these pictures and you’ll see why. There is a hiking trail that has been dubbed as the world’s most dangerous hiking trail which reaches a height of 7,087 feet high. It has a nickname of “The Heavenly Stairs.”
The paths have been reinforced due to a recent influx of tourists, but they are nonetheless dangerous, and carry a reputation for fatal falls. Although no official statistics are kept, some say that the number may be as much as about 100 fatal falls a year. Some of the more dangerous parts of the trails have names like Thousand-Foot Precipice, Hundred-Foot Crevice and Black Dragon Ridge.
It starts out with a nice set of stairs which doesn’t seem like too bad of a hike at first.
Once you get higher, there is a gondola waiting for you to take to the southern peak.
That’s when it takes very dangerous twist.
One wrong step could be fatal.
There is literally nothing to walk on but a tiny plank and a chain to hold you.
The trail doesn’t look too safe at all.
The highest peak stands at over 7,000 feet tall.
There is almost nothing to keep you from falling.
If you are brave enough (and lucky enough), you get to something pretty awesome at the end of the journey.
If you make it to the top, you can relax at this old Taoist temple.
The temple was converted into a teahouse. Thousands of people climb this deadly trail and hundreds of people have died to end up at a teahouse.
So yes, people literally risk their lives on this path to enjoy some tea.
