As a kid, the only thing I wanted to do was be outdoors. I couldn’t get enough of being outside and running around. Jumping through puddles, and playing on the jungle gym, if it was outdoors I was into it. That hasn’t left me even though I’ve gotten older. I would much rather be outside hiking in the mountains or camping in the desert than sitting inside. As a parent though, sometimes you just need your kids to stay indoors. I know, I know, people with kids scoff and laugh at that notion, but it is true. Having a space where the little ones can play as if they were outside would be a dream come true for most parents. Well this dad decided to take on the challenge, and the end result speaks for itself.
So this is what he started with. A pretty simple room. Almost like an artist’s blank canvas.

Some framing to start things out.

Someone seems excited! The ultimate goal of this DIY project is to create a play house for his little boy and girl.

At least we know the kids can climb on this thing and it’s safe.

It’s definitely starting to look more and more like a house.

Now for the drywall! I like that this thing even has window cutouts.

This place might end up being nicer than my house…

The window frames are in and the painting has started.

Dad even added little flower boxes underneath the bottom windows.

The house is finished and I love the detail with the trim and the shingles! The whole project is not however.

Little touches like this ladder into the window are what make this a true play house.

The ladder leads up to a road bridge inside the house.

Off to the side of the house there is a platform for a slide.

This is any kid’s absolute dream room! Now, even when the weather isn’t cooperating or mom and dad just don’t have time to watch them outside they can come in here and burn off some energy. I know I would have absolutely loved to have a room like this. This dad definitely went above and beyond for his little ones. Hopefully they are able to appreciate it.
