Nothing pulls on the heartstrings more than hearing about abandoned children who finally get adopted to deserving and loving parents and this story is no different. A couple of years ago, a man from Italy, 42-year-old Luca Trapanese fell in love with a one-month old little girl and ended up adopting her. The reason this story stands out is because Luca is single and gay. Adopting in Italy is more challenging since they usually don’t grant custody to single, homosexual men. Luckily, Luca was told he could finally adopt a child, but with one exception, he could only adopt a child with health or behavioral problems. But that didn’t phase him one bit.

Luca adopted a beautiful little girl named Alba in 2017. She was only 13 days old and had Down syndrome, which was the reason her mother gave her up for adoption. At the time that he adopted her, 20 families had already rejected Alba because she had Down syndrome.

But Alba’s down syndrome didn’t scare Luca away since he was determined to become a father.

Luca had plenty of experience working in centers for people with special needs.

He said, “Since I was 14 years old, I have volunteered and worked with the disabled so I felt I had the right knowledge and experience to do it.”

He was confident in his father abilities because of his experience with people with special needs.

He also told the media, “When I first held her in my arms, I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away.”

“I am proud to be her dad.”

He also said that his new daughter revolutionized his life and everything revolves around her.

He also stated that it was the first time he had ever held a newborn baby. He was scared, but once he first held Alba, he knew he was ready to be her dad.
