Many people who face adversity tend to give up when the going gets tough. Well like they say, “when the going gets tough, The tough get going.” Guo Shijun is no exception. He has faced adversity in his life ever since his father was paralyzed from an accident and required non-stop attention and help. Guo Shijun is spread incredibly thin.
Instead of giving up on his studies, Shijun worked harder than ever and was accepted to a very prominent university. He worked so hard to prove himself that the university actually allowed him to place his father in his dorm so he could give him the attention he needs as well as aid with his studies and future goals. The university was happy to help him lighten his heavy load.
Shijun’s father, who is paralyzed from the waist down, has a custom bed built right in his sons dorm room. Here Shijun prepares dinner for he and his father.

Shijun takes a picture with his father. He has been a hard worker his whole life and now his workload has doubled but it has not hindered his spirit one bit.

Shijun is 20 years old and has helped his father immensely. His father fell 30 feet from a bridge and was seriously injured. His mother is sick and his grandparents take care of her but they do not have the means to take care of his father also. Shijun took matters into his own hands and respectfully asked the university if they could help him accommodate his father.
The university was so impressed with Shijun’s ethics they were happy to help.

Despite unsurmountable odds Guo Shijun has managed to become one of the top in his class and has earned a scholarship for his impressive grades.

This is truly impressive and his drive and spirit are something to be admired. When asked about his hardships Guo Shigun said this, “I can’t say life is easy but the only way out of the problem is through hard work so I’m not complaining. ‘I think once I graduate things will get much better.”
