The word “heartbreaking” doesn’t even begin to describe these images. The below images are the chilling last words of people who were ultimately killed by police.
John Crawford was at a store in the toy section holding a toy gun. Before the police shot him to death his last words were “It’s not real”.
Sean was killed the night before his wedding at his bachelor party. He hit a mini van and four undercover police officers opened fire, killing him. Two of the friends with him survived. These were his last words to them.
Last words from unarmed Trayvon before he was shot to death.
Unarmed Michael was heard saying this to officers before they shot him at least six times. Twice in the head.
Unarmed Amadou was shot by police officers outside of his building. Police fired 41 bullets hitting him 19 times. They later said they mistook him for a serial rapist.
Unarmed and asthmatic, Eric was getting arrested for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes. A police officer put his arm around Eric’s neck and he managed to gasp “I can’t breathe!” The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide pointing out the officers choke hold was a major contributing factor.
Jonathan had been in a car accident and was knocking on a homeowners door for help. He was unarmed. At the trial they showed a video of him holding his hand out in a non threatening manner. The police officers that never identified themselves shot him 10 times and then handcuffed him as he lay bleeding to death. Those handcuffs remained on him all the way to the medical examiners office.
Oscar was pulled off of a subway train and onto a platform by police. As he was laying on the ground a police officer shot him in the back. The officer later said he meant to use his taser. A court later ruled the police had no reason to force unarmed Oscar off of the subway train.
Standing on a street in Brooklyn police officer approached Kimani. They claimed he pulled a gun from his waistband. Witness accounts say that he never pointed a gun, and police officers never identified themselves. They shot him at least 7 times.
Kendric died after a man called in a phony 911 call telling police he was the victim of an armed robbery. Police found Kendrec in an alleyway and shot him. They claimed he went to his waistband to pull out a gun. He didn’t have a gun, he was reaching for his cell phone.
One final fact, all of these men were black. There has been a lot of recent news stories about black men who have unjustly died at the hands of police offices and ongoing riots because of it. Regardless of what your thoughts are, we need to end the violence on both fronts.
