You hear about guard dogs, but not really so much about guard cats. Why? That would be because there’s no such thing! Cat’s don’t care who comes and goes. As long as they have someone to provide some fresh water, or an open door so they can go find their own, they could care less who passes by as they sun themselves and nap the days away. Well no one told Nani, a two-year old tabby that she isn’t supposed care. Not only that, but she apparently doesn’t realize her size. Or maybe she just doesn’t care. Hey, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog…err cat. Right? So when a black bear came poking around the back porch of her Eagle River, Alaska home, Nani had to show that black bear who was boss. And it was AWESOME!
The bear was just checking things out, not really paying any attention to the little house cat inside. Dumb move, bear!
Darlis Elliott told KTUU-TV, an NBC affiliate, they had watched the bear walk up the driveway and around to the back of her house. “We were all kind of watching him as he came up the back porch and that’s when Nani saw him,” Elliott told the station. “She’s really such a fraidy-cat most of the time, I don’t know what got into her. She probably wouldn’t have lunged if we weren’t standing right behind here,” said Elliott. Apparently the bear has not been seen since. I am sure the poor thing is out there somewhere seeking some sort of therapy for its traumatic experience. I hope Nani got a nice reward for her bravery, maybe some catnip, or a couple of new fancy cat toys. Cats are heroes in my book! Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
