Think back to when you were a child and had birthday parties. Do you remember all of the material items that you were given? Or do you remember the party more than the presents? There are definitely a few presents that I received as a child that stand out, but the birthday celebrations are what stands out most when I think back to the good ol’ days. One of my favorite parties was when I had a birthday party with one of my cousins who happened to share the same birthday month. We had a party at a local farm. The party was in an old farm building and we made homemade ice cream, fed the farm animals, and even got to milk the cows. While this may not sound completely awesome to most people, I will never forget this party. I had a blast! Well Imgur user crujones4433 decided it was time to make some lasting memories for his son on his birthday. While his son, Brody, did end up getting a present in the end, this dad gave his son a brilliant treasure hunt for his birthday! Just wait until you see this.
This is Brody. For his birthday, he received a card, a notebook, a pen, and the first clue. As you can see, there was a little bit of confusion. At the top of the clue, it read, “If you are so inclined, you will be able to read this clue.” Other than that, it looked a lot like a bar code.
This is what the first clue looked like up close.
To read it a little easier, it was best that Brody tilted the paper a little bit down.
I hope he helped Brody out a little bit, and let him know he had to tilt it way down. Being almost eye level with the clue made it much easier to read.
Because this clue was a little difficult, it ended up taking Brody a few days to figure out. He ended up taking pictures of it and zooming in on each letter to figure out the clue. The clue read, “Under a bench you can see from Grandmas balcony.”
Here is the view from Grandma’s balcony. There are five benches visible from up there. The next clue ended up being under the bench near the base of the flag, which you can see in the middle of the picture.
Brody is on the hunt for the clue. But, it wasn’t under this bench.
This is the bench where the clue was located. It was getting dark and Brody couldn’t find the clue taped to the underside of the bench. Today they went home empty-handed.
When they got home, Brody studied the area using Google Maps to see what other benches were in the area.
They went back the next day and, after searching the area a bit better, Brody was able to find the next clue.
Since he worked so hard for this clue, he opened it right away!
Here is what the next clue said, “If you STOP at the corner of McIntyre and McIntyre there is a clue so easy a blind person could find it.”
Because of the shape of their street, it’s shaped like a P, making it possible for there to be a corner at McIntyre and McIntyre.
Brody’s dad used clear furniture anti-scratch stickers to create the next clue on the back of a stop sign.
Brody was familiar with Canadian currency, which has braille on it. So he pulled out a $5 bill and began to check to see what the clue was.
Thank goodness for Google, because Brody used his tablet to figure out the braille.
After figuring out the translation, Brody figured out that the next clue on the back of the stop sign said, “the deck of cards I gave you.” His dad had been planning this brilliant treasure hunt for quite some time because a few weeks earlier, the two of them were playing cards. He told Brody to keep the deck.
They hadn’t played since, but on one of the cards it read, “These cards contain a secret code that may suit you. You may have to make arrangements in order to read it.”
Brody wasn’t sure what that meant, so he started working on this clue.
And he continued working on it, day in and day out.
Brody was getting closer now, but this took at least four days for him to figure it out.
When the cards were shuffled, it was really hard to tell that anything was even written on the side of the deck.
When the cards were put in order though, this is what they read. “The next clue is in your bed.”
His dad drew a line so Brody would know which way the cards should be facing.
Luckily Brody found this clue pretty quickly. It was hidden under his mattress.
This is the final clue. It’s about time, right? This included two Latin words. Brody was forced to use Google again.
Well that seems pretty vague. I sure hope Brody figures it out because this treasure hunt may be the longest one in history.
This clue made sense to Brody. There was a park near his house that opened up when he was younger. His grandparents had bought Brody and his sister each a tree. Once Brody figured out that the Latin words were the name of his tree, he knew right where to go.
His dad didn’t bury this clue very deep, so it was easy to find.
He found the clue with no trouble at all.
Inside of the clue, there was a check for $80.00. I hope all of that hard work and investigating paid off!
That was quite the treasure hunt. Brody’s dad definitely put some thought into his birthday present. There is no way that Brody will ever forget this epic hunt. Maybe when Brody has kids of his own, he’ll remember this birthday and give them something they will always remember as well.
