Around the world, countries have chosen to do things a little different from what we would imagine. Countries who have fought for their borders for many years tend to make it very clear where their border lies. On top of that, there are other countries who border a country that may have different values and opinions then their own. Either way, these photos show the reality and diversity between these borders of countries from around the world.
1. Norway & Sweden
Snowmobilers ride the pathway of removed trees, which is the border between these two countries.
2. United Kingdom & Spain
This is the checkpoint at the International border.
3. Haiti & Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, they have laws about deforestation, where it is obvious Haiti does not.
4. Argentina, Paraguay, & Brazil
This is known as the Triple Frontier, the rivers are the borders.
5. United States & Mexico
This border is over 2,000 miles long and it is the most crossed border in the world.
6. China & Nepal
The highest mountain the world, Mount Everest, is the border between these two countries.
7. Argentina & Brazil
The beautiful Iguazu Falls in this river is the border between these two places.
8. Netherlands & Belgium
This is a bizarre border. The entire town is surrounded by the Netherlands, however 26 separate pieces of the town belong to Belgium. It is separated by these tiles around the city.
9. Costa Rica & Panama
This single lane bridge over the Sixaola River is the border between these countries. This road is used by thousands of cars and pedestrians every single day.
10. Brazil & Bolivia
A river is what separates these two countries. Although by the difference in forests, it’s hard not to tell regardless of the river.
11. Poland & Ukraine
This super fun border not only shows these fish, but it gets decorated every single year for the local arts festival too.
12. Slovakia & Poland
Mt. Rysy is the border between these two countries.
13. Argentina & Chile
This statue of Jesus Christ in the Andes Mountains is the border between these nations and is the symbol for peace.
14. Afghanistan & Pakistan
This is known as the Torkham Gate. It divides the two countries along with soldiers.
15. United States & Canada
This is the longest border in the world. It is over 5,500 miles long.
16. Egypt & Israel
This is a photograph from the International Space Station. It shows Egypt on the left and Israel on the right.
17. Austria, Hungary, & Slovakia
This picnic table is the border between these three nations.
18. Vatican City & Italy
The entrance to St. Peters Square is the border between these two states.
19. Spain & Morocco
The borders here are surrounded by tall fences. They originally built the fences to stop illegal immigration into Spain.
20. Pakistan & India
There is a Wagah border ceremony which takes place every single night where they lower the flags. The reason for this is because the security of both countries have joint forces.
21. North Korea & South Korea
This is the only portion of the Korean Demilitarized Zone where military from both countries stand face to face.
22. Northern & Southern Hemisphere
Although this is not a national border, there is a park in Ecuador that marks the zero degrees latitude.
23. Hong Kong & China
To design road travel between Hong Kong and China was a nightmare for many engineers. As you may know, China is a Left Hand Drive Country and Hong Kong is a Right Hand Drive Country.
24. Little Diomede
This is a pair of islands , Little Diomede (which belong to America) and Big Diomede (which belongs to Russia). They international date line passes between these two islands and thus Little Diomede is looking into tomorrow.
25. Venezuela, Brazil, & Guyana
Mount Roraima serves as the triple border point between these three countries.
I am impressed at the diversity from around the world. Some borders of countries use simple street tiles, while others rely on a river or even military. Either way, it is fun to view pictures and learn about the history of these unique borders.
