You might be making vacation plans to go somewhere warm and sunny. Or maybe you just finished your vacations. A tropical resort? A hotel on the beach? Whatever it might be, this luxury hotel in Croatia is not a destination you want to spend with your family and you’ll soon realize why. Read below to see more about this abandoned Kupari resort:

Kupari is a bay in the Adriatic Sea.

Some say the beaches are some of the best in the world.

In the 1960s, under the rule of Josip Broz, Kupari received a major transformation.

It was designed to be a resort for the military and their families.

The government ended up spending close to a billion dollars on renovations of this resort and its beaches.

The resort was made up of several hotels including The Pelegrin, The Kupari, Goricine, Goricine II, and The Grand Hotel.

The resort could easily accommodate over five thousand guests.

It was a very desirable vacation spot in Europe.

In 1991, all of this luxury took a swift change though.

The beautiful beach was the place for the Croatian War of Independence.

On October 4th, the first shot was fired towards the luxury hotels.

Only twenty short days after the first sound of fire, the war at this, once pristine, beach was over.

But the hotel was ruined.

Following the war, the hotel didn’t get any better.

It was a place for looters and everything of value was stolen.

This once beautiful resort has been talked about a lot lately. They’re thinking of bringing it back to its former glory.

The cost to renovate this hotel is around 400 million Euros or close to 500 million US dollars.

The Grand Hotel is much older than the others, built in 1919.

But it is begging for a beautiful update.

It is such a sad thing to see such a beautiful vacation destination left for basically nothing. No longer will families enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches and gorgeous blue waters. But maybe one day it will be restored back to it’s original beauty. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
