I’d have to say the craziest animal that I have seen in someone’s backyard was a camel. I lived in a place famous for snow so this is definitely an odd sight to come across. It’s no comparison however, to what a neighbor discovered in one Los Angeles family’s backyard this last week. As they were passing by, they noticed something enormous and ancient looking, out of the corner of their eye. They had to take a second look because they weren’t sure if what they saw was real or not. As soon as it moved they were certain that there was a huge, live alligator roaming around the backyard they were passing. They immediately called the authorities and the investigation began. That’s not even the craziest part. You’ll see what I mean.
Animal services were called in to remove an 8-foot alligator named Jaxon from a Los Angeles family’s backyard. Based on the length, officials determined that the alligator was over 40 years old. The family received the crazy pet and has kept it in their house and yard for 40 years before they were busted. As officers were searching the yard, they found something else very disturbing.
While authorities were searching the area that Jaxon the alligator was kept, they discovered the remains of two dead cats. Authorities immediately raised another red flag and believe that the owners were feeding the backyard alligator neighborhood cats.
Animal Control is now asking neighbors to come forward if they are missing any pets. They are asking people in the immediate area if any pets have gone missing in the last year.
Jaxon’s owners state that this backyard alligator would never hurt a fly and they’ve known his personality for 40 years now. They say they only feed the prehistoric pet chicken and hot dogs.
Officials are still investigating Jaxon’s diet and she has been relocated to the Los Angeles Zoo with a beneficial setting and a knowledgeable staff to keep an eye on this backyard alligator. The alligator has stirred up quite the buzz and is expected to have many visitors. I’ve had some neighbors with some pretty terrible pets but I’m sure glad I don’t live next to a freely roaming, deadly backyard alligator that’s killing all the neighborhood cats.
