The New York Times reported that a giant all-white panda has been spotted in China for the first time ever.

The  photo was taken by scientists at Wolong National Nature Reserve with motion-activate cameras on the reserve. This is when they showed the young all-white panda walking through the forest.

Albinism is a group of inherited disorders that results in little or no production of the pigment melanin, which determines the color of the skin, hair and eyes.

Melanin also plays a role in the development of certain optical nerves, so all forms of albinism cause problems with the development and function of the eyes.

“I personally think it’s quite random for it to be discovered, since albinism manifests itself so infrequently,” Dr. Li commented in a telephone interview. “This was recorded just in time.”
