An 83-year-old photographer named Ken Heyman was digging through his closet a few weeks ago and found something he had completely forgotten about. He found an old dusty box on the shelf buried under some miscellaneous things and covered in dust. The box was labeled mothers so he opened it up and the memories flooded back. He found a box of images that he shot nearly 50 years ago of mothers from around the world doing what they love, taking care of their babies. The photographs were taken for a book he co-authored called Family. The book was written with Margaret Mead who is a renowned anthropologist. She wanted the book to capture images of motherhood around the whole world, not to single out any one perspective from a specific culture. The images are absolutely beautiful and are finally receiving the recognition that they deserve.

Being a loving mother has to be one of the toughest, yet most rewarding, jobs a woman can claim. Mothers are special in every way and we tend to put them through hell as we grow. Mothers deserve so much for everything they teach us. They protect and love their children unconditionally and ask for nothing in return. Loving mothers are heroes in my eyes.
