Even though school wasn’t always my favorite place to be, there are definitely some things that will have a special place in my heart. Kids growing up have no idea what we are talking about when we reminisce about some of these awesome memories. Here are 15 things your kids won’t know about.
Oh, the awesome 5-subject binders and notebooks! They had zippers, pockets, and not to mention RAD graphics!
I remember getting so excited for the Book Fair! Now that kids have iPads, XBox, and more Book Fairs just aren’t as exciting as they once were. Remember those Hang In There posters with the cat hanging from the tree? Yeah, me too!
That pointy ‘S’ that everyone used to draw for some reason.
I had the coolest book covers ever! It was great when my parents would bring home paper bags from the grocery store because that meant I could update my cover with a new design!
Remember printers that the little teeth you had to feed the paper through, then you had to tear off the edges? Now kids get mad when the printer isn’t fast enough!
Before there was spell check installed on every electronic device, there was the portable spell checker! This thing was a life saver!
I do not miss going through stacks of floppy disks to find the right program! This might be one thing I don’t miss from back in the day.
So many stamps. So many due dates!
It’s hard for kids to believe that the whiteboards they now have in their classrooms used to once be chalkboards with actual chalk and erasers that had to be cleaned.
This was probably the best video game ever made! It’s available as an app now, but it’s just not the same. You died of dysentery!
Before we could text everyone under the sun, we had to pass notes to our friends and crushes. I had tons of notes saved up from over the years.
Before mechanical pencils and noisy pencil sharpeners, there was the good ol’ manual sharpener. If you had a few pencils to sharpen, your forearms sure got a workout.
Do you remember having to memorize mnemonics? Like in English, to remember the 7 coordinating conjunctions was FANBOYS = Four, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So.
I remember copying so many notes from an overhead projector that my hand would cramp up. And then right when you got into a groove of writing notes, the teacher would walk in front of it causing you to lose your place!
This one was a favorite! You knew that when the VCR and TV cart came into the classroom, it was movie day. Unless you got stuck watching a cheesy educational movie with horrible acting.
Don’t forget about this musical device, the RECORDER!
Last but not least, going door to door selling items for a school fundraiser, only to quickly realize you were knocking on the doors of classmates who already sold to their parents.
