The world lost a legend on October 2nd, 2017. Rocker Tom Petty died peacefully after suffering cardiac arrest  surrounded by his family, band mates and friends. He was a well-known rock star from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally from Florida, Petty took an interest to rock by learning to play the guitar. Nowadays, his songs have catchy lyrics and are known by many. But how much do you actually know about the beloved rock star? Here are 14 Tom Petty facts that you may be interested in.

1. Tom Petty was against the increase in album prices. Originally his album was $8.98, but his record label wanted to charge $1 more for his album. He refused to release it and finally they caved.

2.  Tom Petty took guitar lessons from Don Felder of The Eagles.

3. He also had his own XM radio station.

4. In 1999, the band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

5. He also provided the opening music on the NBA Playoffs and Finals broadcasts on ABC Sports and ESPN with the Heartbreakers in 2006.

6. Sam Smith, singer of the song “Stay With Me” recently settled with Tom Petty for copying his song, “I Won’t Back Down”. He is now required to pay Tom Petty 12.5% for a writing credit.
